Diploma (Polytechnic)
Today, wherever you look around in any field, every visible development has a well-planned strategy behind it. From the alarm that wakes us up in the morning to switching off the electricity before going to bed at night, technology and engineering are present everywhere. We carry our smartphones with us like a shadow throughout the day.Engineering helps us turn our expectations and dreams into reality. Along with this, new technologies are being developed every day, making human life more comfortable, simpler, and more convenient.
A few years ago, people could not even imagine today’s robotic world or advanced space exploration. All these achievements have become possible due to technological advancement and technical education. To make such progress a reality, gaining expertise in technology is essential, and one of the strongest mediums to achieve this is technical education. The first step toward this technical journey is the Polytechnic course.
Polytechnic is a technical-based diploma course that mainly focuses on engineering fundamentals and practical skills. It is considered the initial stage of engineering education, where the primary objective is to provide students with basic, industry-oriented knowledge and prepare them to work as junior engineers or technical assistants. Compared to a B.Tech course, a Polytechnic diploma is less expensive, and after completing it, students can get direct admission into the second year of B.Tech through lateral entry. The duration of this course is three years.
The eligibility criteria for a Polytechnic course include passing the 10th examination with a minimum of 40–50% marks from a recognized board, or passing the 12th examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM).
Some popular Polytechnic (Diploma) branches include Diploma in Computer Science, Diploma in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Agriculture,Diploma in Aircraft Engineering, and Diploma in Interior Design and Decoration.
Several entrance examinations are conducted for Polytechnic admissions, such as JEECUP, CET, POLYCET, AP POLYCET, TS POLYCET, and JEXPO. In addition to these, many other entrance tests are also held, including DCECE, HP PAT, and JKPET.
After completing a Polytechnic diploma, students can find employment opportunities in government sectors such as Railways, NTPC, BHEL, and DRDO, as well as in the private sector. They can work as technicians, junior supervisors, or operators. There is especially high demand for Polytechnic diploma holders in sectors like construction, information technology, and manufacturing.
