Online Diploma in Journalism and Reporting

Under the UGC -DEB(ODL) framework, online diploma programs in journalism and reporting are officially recognized and approved. An Online Diploma in Journalism and Reporting is a one-year program that is both convenient and cost-effective for students. In many respects, it is similar to a regular diploma in journalism and reporting; however, it offers significantly greater flexibility.

In an online program, students are not required to visit the college campus. There are no physical classes, as the entire course is conducted online, allowing learners to study from any location.

Online Diploma in Journalism and Reporting programs offer live online classes along with recorded lectures, enabling students to learn at their own pace. This flexible learning structure allows learners to continue their job or business while pursuing higher education.

A major benefit of an online diploma program is its affordable fee structure. Compared to regular diploma programs, online courses are much more economical. Many universities now offer Online Diploma in Journalism and Reporting programs at low fees, making quality education accessible without financial pressure.

The growing demand for online and ODL programs is reflected in the increasing number of universities offering DEB-approved courses. Between 2021 and 2023, only 33 universities offered such programs; however, by the academic year 2025–26, this number has increased to nearly 80 universities.

To gain admission to an Online Diploma in Journalism and Reporting, candidates must have passed the 12th standard from a recognized board with at least 50% marks in any subject. Students belonging to reserved categories may be admitted with lower marks as per applicable norms. No entrance examination is required, and admission is generally based on eligibility criteria and academic performance, although some universities may conduct their own entrance or assessment tests.

After completing an Online Diploma in Journalism and Reporting, students become eligible for various job roles such as copy editor, photojournalist, social media manager, podcast producer, news editor, and more. The value and recognition of an Online Diploma in Journalism and Reporting are equivalent to those of a regular diploma in journalism and reporting.
