BA LLB
As human society gradually became more civilized, rules were created from time to time to guide people and maintain order in society. Since people have different ways of thinking, it became necessary to make rules that apply equally to everyone. Over time, these rules developed into laws, and following them became mandatory for all citizens. Anyone who violates these laws is punished to ensure discipline and justice in society.
To ensure the smooth functioning of the legal system and the Constitution, the BA LLB (Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law) course was introduced. It is a five-year undergraduate degree program designed to help students understand, interpret, and apply laws properly. The course provides in-depth and practical knowledge of law, enabling students to understand the relationship between law and society and to play an effective role in the justice system.
The BA LLB course covers both Arts and Law subjects. In the Arts section, students study Sociology, Economics, History, Political Science, and the English language. Along with Arts subjects, students study Criminal Law, Family Law, Constitutional Law, Law of Torts, Property Law, Law of Contract, Environmental Law, and Jurisprudence.
For admission to the BA LLB program, candidates must have at least 50% marks in Class 12 from any stream. Reserved category candidates are given relaxation in marks as per government norms. Admissions to BA LLB courses are mainly conducted through entrance examinations such as AILET (for NLU Delhi), CLAT (for National Law Universities), SLAT (for Symbiosis Law Schools), AMU Entrance Exam (Aligarh Muslim University), JMI Entrance Exam (Jamia Millia Islamia), and LSAT–India (for many private law colleges).
In addition, several states conduct their own entrance examinations, including PU UGLLB, MH CET LAW, TS LAWCET, AP LAWCET, and KLEE (for government law colleges in Kerala). Some universities and institutes also conduct personal interviews along with written tests.
After completing the BA LLB course, students have many career opportunities. They can work as Public Prosecutors in government jobs, become Magistrates or Civil Judges through judicial services, work as Legal Officers in the RBI and other government banks or work as legal experts in various corporate sectors. Students can also pursue LLM and become law professors in the future.
