Online Master In Library Science

Under the UGC–DEB framework, Online Master in Library Science programs are officially recognized and approved. An Online Master in Library Science is a one-year postgraduate program that is both convenient and cost-effective for students. In many ways, it is similar to a regular Master in Library Science degree, but it offers much greater flexibility.

In an online program, students are not required to visit the college regularly. There are no physical classes, as the entire course is conducted online, allowing learners to study from any location.

Online Master in Library Science programs offer live online classes along with recorded lectures, enabling students to learn at their own pace. This flexible learning structure allows students to continue their job or business while pursuing higher education.

One of the major advantages of an online degree program is its affordable fee structure. Compared to regular degree programs, online courses are much more economical. The rising demand for Online and ODL programs is reflected in the increasing number of universities offering DEB-approved courses. Between 2021–23, only 33 universities offered such programs, whereas by 2025–26, the number has increased to nearly 80 universities.

To get admission to an online master in library science program,candidates must have a graduation degree with at least 50 marks, Students from reserved categories may be admitted with lower marks as per applicable norms. Many institutions also prefer or require candidates to have a Bachelor of Library Science (B.Lib.Sc) degree. No entrance examination is required, and admission is based on eligibility criteria and academic performance.

After completing an Online Master in Library Science, graduates can pursue careers as a Librarian, Library Software Developer, Assistant Professor, Content Manager, Information Analyst, or Archivist. The value and recognition of an Online Master in Library Science degree are equivalent to a regular Master in Library Science degree.
